The first blur painting was done on a smaller canvas with just black and white oil paint and paint thinner. My process for the first piece was to just paint a face and then blur it later but as I rendered the face and let it dry I had to add more paint to certain areas and try to blur it. In not adding as much paint, I think it affected the look of the final product. In doing the first one I was able to realize that for the second painting I did not want to use the same blur technique. My findings from the first painting led me to realize that I needed to use more paint or find a different way to portray a glitch in using thin paint and layers. In the second painting I started out with a picture of reference from the film The Double. In this film there is a side profile view of a woman and there is an elevator button and a door. For the technological glitch aspect on the second painting I decided to use the screen that comes on a tv when something needs to be fixed like w

I struggled a lot with this project because I wanted to explore sculpture through a painterly way but all of my ideas weren't very good and I couldn't find any materials I found interesting enough and so after many times of trying to create a sculpture I thought I would return to painting but try and make it more of a sculpture. I took an old mirror and old canvas and I hot glued the canvas onto the mirror to mimic the traditional canvas and frame combination but I wanted to leave slivers of the mirror within the canvas that was on top of it because it's interesting to think about the idea of taking an object and removing it from its function then wondering if it still classifies as that object. I was using a mirror but was it still a mirror if it is covered? I also took an old canvas bag and painted on it and then attached it to the canvas that was on top of the mirror so that it was layered and then I decided to break the frame in a sense by moving the

I like the concept of the atmospheric perspective painting. Using gritty marks and a loose style seemed to be something that I usually enjoy so I thought this project would be kind of easy for me but when we had to pick pictures to use as reference I chose to do one with a reflection and very tall straight buildings because I thought that would make an interesting composition however having such a picture to work from on all three pieces, my paintings became very centered and even though that isn't a negative thing, it definetely made it more difficult to create visual interest within such a strict composition. Even using a very large piece of raw canvas didn't allow me much room to be loose with it because I was worried about making sure it looked believable within the universe of the painting. Only being allowed to use black and white was another challenge because I usually don't use just two colors and it was hard to try and decide what the darkest dark needed

The abstraction painting was actually a little difficult for me. Even though I enjoy abstract art, especially making it, it was hard to seperate the figure from the painting and work from that. I ended up using the palette knife and enhancing certain colors that were a little dialed back in the original that way the new piece that was created would have its own content and wouldn't rely on being an abstraction of a master copy. I ended up using a lot of oil paint in the first abstraction becasue I wanted it to have a lot of variety when it came to texture so in some areas I layered it on while in others I tried to spread it out and then go back into it and add more. It was easier once I made a lot of paint and just tried to not see the face that was painted and instead look at it like different areas of colors and then when I started the abstraction of an abstraction I decided it would be interesting to use a smaller, but still proportionate canvas to see if it would be easier or

The stretcher-less canvas project was one that I was excited to begin because to me the project removed content along with the ordinary expectations to a painting, that being the frame. Using watered down acrylic paint I worked quickly in order to cover the entire canvas and experiment with the colors I used. I decided to use red orange, blue, black, white, and a little bit of yellow to really try and see what I could come up with a very selective palette. After the entire canvas was covered I kept going back after it dried adding more layers of washes and color in order to create a piece with a lot of depth to it. After I was satisfied with the colors I chose I decided to add some shapes because I was curious as to how that would look with it being a stretcher less canvas. I was very satisfied with the side with black outlines and filled shapes so i chose to show more of that side in my variations. I also tried to create different compositions on the wall using the
